Female: Herbal aromas lead to black cherry and a touch oak on the palate. Fresh herbs and teas spice notes add to the complexity of the round and pleasing palate.

Male: The nose is complex. There is an intriguing bit of navel orange leading to guava, blueberry, chocolate, and cola with sage, rosemary, and dried fennel seed accents. Coffee and plum flavors on the palate with a citrus component that is surprising. The acidity is appealing. A good food wine.

So come and join us on January 21, 2012 at Treasure Island. Hurry, tickets are very limited!

Happy Holidays! Yikes, already?

November 29th, 2011

How did it come upon us so quickly?

With Black Friday and Cyber this day and that day behind us, we need to take a calming breath and reflect on exactly what this time should be about. From the mad dash to the malls and shops, to surfing great deals on the web, we would like to remind everyone to pause in the moment and just be joyful.

It has been a wild year in politics, the economy and wall street take-overs. It is so easy to become absorbed into the madness as it threatens our Wa, consuming everything in it’s path.

BUT, it is still the holidays and a time to sit peacefully with friends and family that we love. Perhaps cook a meal, open a great bottle of great wine (hopefully Ehret) and just savor the simple pleasures of life.

This is our wish for you this Holiday Season; Celebrate life, celebrate you and have a very joyous and happy, happy, holiday! Oh yes, and don’t forget to laugh…..

Cheers & Happy Holidays,

Team Ehret

Hail the End of Harvest 2011

October 31st, 2011

It is with a huge, collective sigh of relief that we can finally bid adieu to the harvest of 2011! What a year this has been!

It started with temperatures far below normal, causing a later-than-usual bud break and ripening process. Under normal summer circumstances this would be fine if, in fact, it was followed by a nice, long, warm summer. That did not happen; summer was cooler than is usual.

The end of the growing season was very cool and, if that wasn’t bad enough, it rained … a lot! Many growers were plagued with rot and botrytis, and sugars in the grapes barely reaching the desired Brix levels. Thankfully, in our Bavarian Lion Vineyards, our most esteemed vineyard manager, Alex Vyborny, was prepared. Our white varietals were perfect and harvested before the pesky rains, and our red varietals reached their desired sugar levels in these last few weeks of gorgeous sunshine. Phew!

Now it’s time for our vines begin their own process of winding down photosynthesis, and shutting down for the winter months ahead. It is during this process that the leaves turn the varying shades of orange and red, and truly one of the best times to come visit wine country.

We at Ehret Family Winery are saying our thanks for another Harvest safely in our cellars, and also want to give thanks to all of you, our extended family, for all of your loyal support during 2011.

If you come to Sonoma County this fall or winter or any time, don’t forget to come taste our wines at Locals Tasting Room in Geyserville, just 5 minutes north of Healdsburg; www.tastelocalwines.com.

The best to you all!
